FAQ

  • Do you take insurance?

At the moment we are primarily a self pay practice. We are in network with BCBS but not other insurances. Meaning, we do not take any insurance outside of BCBS . We are able to offer sliding scale rates, take HSA/FSA payments and can provide you with a Super Bill for you to submit to insurance and try to get reimbursement for services.

  • How can I use BCBS insurance?

During the onboarding process, you will be asked to provide your insurance information so we can submit claims to BCBS for you. We aim to facilitate a smooth and transparent billing process for our patients. While we may help you verify insurance benefits, we want to emphasize that we do not guarantee payment, assume liability, or ensure the accuracy of benefit verification. Insurance coverage can vary per plan, and it is the responsibility of the patient to contact their insurance company directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding their coverage. We have created a script for you to use if you need support with the verification of benefits process. Our practice will provide assistance and support in navigating the insurance process, but the ultimate responsibility for understanding and clarifying insurance-related matters rests with the patient. In the event that insurance claims come back denied, the patient is responsible for the associated costs. Our experience with BCBS is that most plans cover services 100% under their preventative services. If you have an HMO plan, a insurance referral will be needed from your assigned physician. We recommend you fill out our contact page so we can provide you with the needed information for the referral, prior to reaching out to your PCP.

  • How long are sessions

Sessions are scheduled for 55 minutes but sometimes end earlier or go a little over. If you have specific time needs discuss this with your provider.

  • What should I expect? I've never worked with a dietitian before.

Our aim is for you to walk away from each session feeling motivated, empowered, heard, challenged, validated, and supported, as if you have your own personal nutrition coach cheering you on towards success. Our goal is to equip you with skills and tools that boost confidence in your eating habits, helping you feel your best and achieve your goals.

  • How many sessions do I need?

If you are here for the treatment and management of an eating disorder, you can expect more long term care and support. It’s recommended to continue to see your outpatient treatment team regularly up until a years worth of primarily recovery focused behaviors. This ensures better treatment outcomes and lower relapse rates.

If you are seeing use for general nutrition or to manage a medical disease you can anticipate a minimum of 3 months of care to implement behavior change, build healthy longstanding habits and meet your treatment plan goals.

  • How often are sessions?

Ideally, starting care at a frequency of weekly is best. We have found clients who start wih more frequent care move quicker through the treatment process and ultimately need less time with us in the bigger picture. These clients also feel well supported and as if the pace of care and meeting their goals meets their expectations. We typically see this at 4-8 weeks of weekly sessions.

If weekly doesn’t work for you, biweekly sessions are the next best thing, and depending on your presenting concerns may be an appropriate place for a lot of clients to start at.

  • How much do sessions cost?

Cost of sessions vary based off of each provider. On average, Initial assessments cost $175 and follow ups cost $150. If these rates are not reasonable for you but you are committed to care and want to be seen by us at LNC, fill out our contact form and let us know your situation. We do offer sliding scale spots, which are limited but it does not hurt to ask.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Please call or email us at LuminNutrition@gmail.com or contact your dietitian directly if you need to cancel or reschedule.

If you give less than 24 hours notice we have a late cancel and no show fee of your full appointment amount. We understand things come up so please communicate with us what is going on. We are reasonable and understanding providers. Everyone is allowed 1 late cancel or no show before occurring fees. If you are more than 15 minutes late for the session, it will be considered a no show or late canceled appointment.

  • Will you coordinate with my other healthcare providers?

OF COURSE! We love collaborating with providers and understand the importance and impact this can have on your care and at the end of the day, providing the best client care is our goal. When initial paperwork is sent out, a release of information should be sent to you. Fill this out for any providers you feel its important we reach out to re: MD, PCP, Endo, Therapist, Psychiatrist etc.
